"design is thinking made visual."
- Saul Bass
Minori McKinney is currently a bank teller and freelance artist. Alum of AVHS, student at SCAD.
Hi, my name is Minori McKinney. I was a Design and Visual Communications student at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School and a 2D Animation major at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Georgia; now a bank teller & freelance artist, and I am 21 years old.
I had no siblings growing up, so I was always used to a quiet lifestyle, which was good for thinking and expressing myself. However, it was not all full of perks...
At age 10, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a part of the autism spectrum disorder, and always hyperfixated on art, both before then and since. Today, the creative arts continue to remain my primary passion.
Over my life, I have spent years interested in the arts and trying my best to hone my skills in that department. Getting into my high school's Design and Visual technical program was a dream come true, and I enjoyed every moment there while I was still enrolled. Over time in my vocational class, I have learned skills in Adobe programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, and Animate, to name a few.
I am also certified in Photoshop as an Adobe Associate.
I also have learned other skills such as video editing and creation, graphic designing, animation, business skills, and web design. I have also worked on live jobs since I was a sophomore. Many would say that I am very good at working with clients.
I graduated in 2020 with a diploma and a certificate of occupational proficiency. COVID-19 disallowed me to experience the rest of my senior year and affected my graduation (I never had a formal ceremony), but I am grateful for what I have received and will never forget the many memories I made there that helped boost my career skills. I visit a lot to help my shop teachers or my choir teacher whenever they or their students now need me, and I have a very positive relationship with them.
I was soon accepted to SCAD's 2D animation program, where I studied for three classes a semester from Monday-Thursday. Over the long weekends, I continued drawing. I took up a hobby of busking on said weekends with my ukulele to secure money for emergencies/rainy days- and to boost my communication skills and confidence while I was practically a thousand miles away from home and my parents.
After spending a year at SCAD, I left due to the stress of being away from home and plan to take future classes online if I am to return. Until then, I am keeping busy running a small business of mine named Minori's Markett (As of May 2021), a home for my art and secondhand goods (to be sold to those who can love them now as I had before), with several sales each week and as a stable side job, though I do also have a day job as a bank teller (as of Aug 2022), so you could say I have quite the retail/financial experience!
Although art is my main passion, I still enjoy doing various other things, like writing books and singing. I dabble in the ukulele and keyboards. I also have three cats, Oreo, Nightpelt, and Zilly, whom I love dearly. Here, have some photos of them before you continue browsing!
